| A passable feature-length adaptation that does little to burnish the estimable screen legacy of a Dickens classic. Justin Chang-Variety Vivid characterizations from Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter are the highlights of Mike Newell's traditional retelling of the classic Dickens novel. David Rooney-Hollywood Reporter Helena Bonham Carter does something with Miss Havisham that Martita Hunt couldn't quite manage in the brilliant 1946 David Lean film; namely, make it feel as though she never changed out of that damned wedding dress. Jim Schembri-3AW I enjoyed the gloomy English setting and was impressed by how many subplots they were able to explore. John DeFore-Hollywood Reporter It doesn't take long for the absurdist humor to pall among a pileup of nonsensical ideas that would be funnier if grounded in a less hazy concept. | What is most distressing about Admission is that it serves as further evidence that Tina Fey, despite her dominance of the small screen, has not yet mastered the big one. Christopher Orr-The Atlantic This is certainly an interesting idea, though the movie is badly handicapped by Fey, who must venture beyond her usual snippiness into scenes of genuine poignancy and proves unequal to the task.
