Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn Movie Review
"GoodFellas" is just one of the movies that did this all much better before. Farran Smith Nehme-New York Post Packing the screen with wiseguy-story regulars - like Vincent Pastore and a limp Tony Darrow, perhaps distracted by his recent legal difficulties - is fruitless when your movie is as pathetically inept as this one. Jeannette Catsoulis-New York Times Cathy Moriarty and other Scorsese alums pop up, but these mean streets feel too derivative to thrill. Joe Neumaier-New York Daily News Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn's vision of the Mafia comes filtered through a needlessly complex screenplay, as if the creators felt the need to prove they've seen a few Arnaud Desplechin films alongside Goodfellas. Steve Erickson-Village Voice Solid performances can't save the film from its banal, convoluted screenplay that leaves no room for interpretation or subtlety. Avi Offer-NYC Movie Guru

"Turtle Hill" is inconclusive from start to finish, and while that appears purposeful, it's also pretty dull. David DeWitt-New York Times A spirit of free play defines the proceedings, as the script, penned by the two leads, allows characters to reveal themselves through believably precise bits of booze- and weed-fueled conversation. Struggling with the legacy of a man he barely knew, Jeff finds solace in a relationship with an enigmatic young woman (Imogen Poots, 28 WEEKS LATER) working at the show. As they explore New York City, their adventures recall glimpses of Tim's (Ben Rosenfield) own 60s heyday, as he drives cross-country with a girlfriend and finds himself on the verge of stardom. Leading up to the now-legendary show that launched Jeff's own brilliant career, GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY is a poignant mirror portrait of father and son, two of the most beloved singer-songwriters of their generations. -- (C) Tribeca Movie Release on Theater May 3, 2013 Limited

Greetings From Tim Buckley Movie Review
Algrant's desire to reunite father and son through music is admirable, but "Greetings from Tim Buckley" is too meandering and ethereal to have any lasting impact. Jeff Shannon-Seattle Times Badgley does a credible take on the signature falsetto that Jeff would later bring to his only album, Grace ... Rick Groen-Globe and Mail The concert may have seen the reluctant birth of a second-generation rock star, but this movie, if nothing else, is a similarly suitable showcase for its own leading man. William Goss-Film.com In paying homage to two iconic performers, he's given a former small-screen star the chance to announce his own cinematic arrival. Elizabeth Weitzman-New York Daily News Badgley delivers a nuanced performance of such ferocity he almost singlehandedly makes a conventional film seem loose and improvisatory. Calum Marsh-Village Voice What redeems the film, ultimately, are Jeff's poignant efforts to unburden himself of his father's oppressive legacy and stand on his own merits. Scott Tobias-NPR The movie struggles to find its footing, lacking the dramatic tension to make it of much interest beyond the fan base of the supremely talented, tragically fated Buckleys. Marc Mohan-Oregonian Greetings From Tim Buckley is a beautiful, touching, electrically charged success, capturing the essence of these two adored musicians with a synergistic magic that, unbelievably, does them both justice. Cammila Collar-TV Guide's Movie Guide Music-filled drama amounts to several promises unfulfilled except for some solid performances and a terrific soundtrack of Buckley songs, both actual and skillfully recreated. Doris Toumarkine-Film Journal International There is no doubt that Greetings From Tim Buckley is respectable...But the film never quite connects father and son as each sharing the common bond of extraordinary talent or even similar personal woes. Kevin Jagernauth-The Playlist Badgley is terrific, and even if he doesn't quite succeed in making Jeff Buckley likeable, he does make the singer's standoffish attitude understandable. Noel Murray-AV Club The minor-key recreation of New York's burgeoning music scene feels authentic and Badgley nails the best scene: Jeff breaking into an impromptu record-store performance that's as funny as it is desperate for attention. Greg Evans-Bloomberg News Despite the counter-culture subjects at its core, Daniel Algrant's film possesses a put-upon hipness that cannot mask its disarming dorkiness. Nick McCarthy-Slant Magazine Badgley's star-making turn undoubtedly [ranks] as the film's most potent weapon/attribute. David Nusair-Reel Film Reviews

Iron Man 3 Movie Review | |
The trouble is that, as the plot quickens, any cleverness withdraws, to make way for the firecrackers of the climax. That is not Black's forte, and his movie duly slumps into a mess. Anthony Lane-New Yorker Shane Black excels at writing witty, self-referential, pop-infused banter, and there is no actor working today who is better suited to delivering it than Robert Downey Jr. Christopher Orr-The Atlantic Iron Man 3 feels like an exploitative mulching of present-day anxieties. The script is ambitious but not wise enough to be rightfully cathartic. It's more Cuisinart than art. Lisa Kennedy-Denver Post The action, directed by Shane Black, ranges from passable to interminable. Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor Black is good at giving his heroes a morbid, self-hating edge and even better at coming up with hateable villains. David Edelstein-Vulture After a while, the steady diet of tongue-in-cheek starts to taste monotonous as day-old gum. Liam Lacey-Globe and Mail A regression in the usual strong work from Marvel Studios, Iron Man 3 suffers from director Shane Black's mishandling of this popular superhero character. Matthew Pejkovic-Matt's Movie Reviews The elements that were once daring are starting to feel statistically approved - and tired. Margot Harrison-Seven Days Terrorist and anxiety attacks prove equally dismaying to Marvel's 'man in a can' in this witty, satisfying sequel. John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) Iron Hot with action Diana Saenger-ReviewExpress.com ... best Iron Man yet thanks to Shane Black, who pushes characterization, clever plot twists, not computer effects ... Downey, for a change, drops his guard, shows the heart beneath the armor Glenn Lovell-CinemaDope It's the funniest superhero film, and it doesn't feel like it's pandering. That's the power of Downey, Jr. and now Shane Black. Jeff Bayer-The Scorecard Review A palatable entertainment... rests on the strength of the principals Rubin Safaya-Cinemalogue.com Are you sick of superheroes? No, of course you are not, cinema audiences are lapping up any caped crusader movies. But I am, especially when Tony Stark is an angst ridden shambles suffering from performance anxiety. What's so super about that? Brian Henry Martin-UTV Yeah...it's good. Bob Grimm-Reno News and Review We can trust in Tony Stark, even when he's falling apart and can't trust himself. Michael Smith-Tulsa World For anyone familiar with Shane Black's work, it's not long before a strong case of deja vu sets in. David Medsker-Bullz-Eye.com It's nothing but a collection of superhero clichés made marginally palatable by Robert Downey Jr.'s endless charm and charisma. Al Alexander-The Patriot Ledger The real enjoyment here comes when Shane Black's sensibilities take over during the middle hour. Garth Franklin-Dark Horizons what it does it does quite well, providing a satisfying sense of escapism while reminding us that such pleasures don't have to be saturated with overkill and completely devoid of relevance James Kendrick-Q Network Film Desk Black and Downey put a swell spin of wit into it and, in a time of superhero saturation, take a back seat to no one in reserving marquee space for their guy. Moreover, they leave you wanting more of the same, please. Jules Brenner-Cinema Signals It has the flash and quips to be a good time, if not the heart to be great. Rebecca Cusey-Patheos Iron Man 3 displays no shortage of cocky swagger in-between - and often during - the requisite sequences of high-tech 3-D carnage. Jason Anderson-The Grid Same old tired effects to go along with more Downey smugness. Boo Allen-Denton Record Chronicle (TX) Here, it's not the suit that makes the man; it's the man that makes the suit. And Downey is still the star that keeps it-and this multi-million-dollar movie franchise-roaring and soaring. Neil Pond-American Profile A lumbering half-assed attempt at self-seriousness with lots of stuff blowing up, a smattering of repartee, one excellent sequence, and a brace of uninteresting villains. Watch Post Tenebras Lux Movie Online Streaming MegavideoYou can watch Post Tenebras Lux movie in HD without Downloading Free HEREPOST TENEBRAS LUX ("light after darkness"), ostensibly the story of an upscale, urban family whose move to the Mexican countryside results in domestic crises and class friction, is a stunningly photographed, impressionistic psychological portrait of a family and their place within the sublime, unforgiving natural world. Reygadas conjures a host of unforgettable, ominous images: a haunting sequence at dusk as Reygadas's real-life daughter wanders a muddy field and farm animals loudly circle and thunder and lightning threaten; a glowing-red demon gliding through the rooms of a home; a husband and wife visiting a swingers' bathhouse with rooms named after famous philosophers. By turns entrancing and mystifying, POST TENEBRAS LUX palpably explores the primal conflicts of the human condition. (c) Strand Movie Release on Theater May 1, 2013 Limited

Post Tenebras Lux Movie Review
It's as if Reygadas started with a sprawling cache of visual ideas and then tried to find some way to organize them all. The effect can be frustrating at times, but also surprising and beguiling. Scott Tobias-NPR Like a jumbled-up set of nesting boxes, the scenes make sense individually (kind of). The hard part is fitting them together. Farran Smith Nehme-New York Post Regadas overdoes everything in a self-indulgent presentation of trite fantasies masked as memories. Elizabeth Weitzman-New York Daily News A mesmerizing combination of opaque art-house cinema, personal reflection and class-based rural thriller, Mexican director Carlos Reygadas' "Post Tenebras Lux" casts a strange and powerful spell. Andrew O'Hehir-Salon.com Life and death, nature and culture, sex and money, man and beast, God and the Devil - "Post Tenebras Lux" embraces the world even if it doesn't open itself up to ready interpretation. Manohla Dargis-New York Times This is a movie that, even in its most inexplicable or provocative moments, welcomes each of us into its stream of subconsciousness as a fellow dreamer. Keith Uhlich-Time Out New York Emotionally and intellectually demanding, but occasionally exhausting and tedious. Avi Offer-NYC Movie Guru If greeted with enough openness and interest, Post Tenebras Lux's seemingly incoherent string of scenes reveals itself as a carefully executed emotional structure that begs for, and rewards, repeated viewings. Joe Peeler-Paste Magazine The film is never less than fascinating, but it appears to be so intensely personal as to be all but indecipherable to viewers not personally acquainted with the filmmaker, or at least in possession of the press kit. Mike D'Angelo-AV Club Despite a handful of splendid moments, it doesn't quite succeed Jordan Hoffman-Badass Digest Creates so many possibilities that it may be likened to a rough draft awaiting editing. Donald J. Levit-ReelTalk Movie Reviews Carlos Reygadas's latest, an almost impossibly intellectual film, keeps us at a remove that's as striking as that which separates its main character from the lower classes. Ed Gonzalez-Slant Magazine It's just one self-indulgence after (or before) another. Philip French-Observer [UK] The film does come across as an evidently sincere attempt to create a new kind of cinema, but opinion will certainly vary on whether Reygadas really does offer, as his title suggests, light after darkness. Trevor Johnston-Radio Times Suggests Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life refracted through Tarkovsky's Mirror: terminally self-conscious, intermittently breathtaking. Tim Robey-Daily Telegraph This often brilliant director is defiantly playing private games with us, whether we like it or not. Derek Malcolm-This is London
